Sunday on the Heath

So last weekend me and my favourite Peter went down to Hampstead Heath to do a test shoot and mess around...as usual the London weather decided to be an absolute prick and the day turned out to be quite miserable. That coupled with the fact that I've got - and have been told on numerous occasions - quite a naturally miserable face made for some pretty interesting results and by interesting I mean " Jesus Christ who is this girl she needs a hug and a sandwich someone throw some food at her quick!!"...my Goodness I didn't even recognize me...it was just a test anyway and hopefully next time me and Pete get together for this sort of thing it will be a much nicer and brighter conclusion to our day.
Go Petey!!!

Muzorama

God...you have to love French people...they are pretty bonkers and so Goddamn moody but so creative you just can't resist them...Here's a little film as a perfect example, based on you guessed it, the universe of French illustrator Muzo...tres fantastique non?!

The wonderful sounds of Ellie Goulding...her voice reminds me a lot of KT Tunstall but with more drum beats and electro butterflies flying around the place in between her cute, honey soaked voice. My new favourite singing lady person! Check her out on http://www.myspace.com/elliegoulding

Morning Date at The Tate

So yesterday morning I was supposed to meet my lovely team mates for a little spot of research for a project we're currently working on and it seems there was definitely something in the air as everyone managed to have a disastrous morning...but all the wind, hail and rain couldn't stop us from getting there in the end and enjoy the posh coffee/ethic tea/organic orange juice hassle free...I'm talking no smelly tourists - yes they do smell most of the time - , cranky babies screaming their heads off at a Picasso painting - I totally understand you babies - and generally being pushed around or being told off by staff - sorry you're breathing way too close to this painting can you take a step back please? oh ok! - All in all it was a great day out although by the time we did get back to the office we were all exhausted and wanted to go to sleep. It's a hard life being a tourist, no wonder they stink!

Banana Loves..

Reckoner by Radiohead, the soundtrack to my life recently...I love this song, I think it's absolutely beautiful, the whole In Rainbows album actually is full of wonderful melodies but this is my favourite track and I've been listening to it a lot lately. Strangely, I only saw the video recently and I have to say it's very different to how it's been playing in my head, different textures, different colours...but I guess nothing can stop me from still letting it play out the way I envisioned it so far.

Monogrenade

It seems I'm sticking with the French spirit today...well sort of...Montreal based band Monogrenade's video for Ce Soir is pure stop-motion animation magic.

Bizarre little clip from the short film Les Ventres by Philippe Grammaticopoulos...here's the thing I've never eaten snails before and after watching this I don't think I ever will! Gorgeous animation and clever sound effects are a trademark of this man's work.

Antichrist

Erm...not too sure about this but I love Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Dafoe and I think it's one of those things that you just have to watch and then deal with it...

This cute little film made by my occasional partner in crime and personal assistant - not really - Pete, after a weekend with friends up in Norfolk.
Some quick facts about Pete:
  1. he likes to leave his half of a bike just lying around at work resulting in me tripping over it and I'm talking like every single time...
  2. he likes to bully me because I'm only small and I can't really fight back although I do try.
  3. he likes retro stuff like everything...especially old cameras.
  4. he's an ok photographer really I mean I've seen better...
  5. and....after a few beers quite an attractive, charismatic young chap!!!
You know?! Nah but this video is really sweet and it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside...almost like having a heart I suppose!

Pete also has his own blog - copycat - where he talks about bikes and boy things that I don't really understand... http://petescotch.tumblr.com/

Turn it Loose documentary feature from Partizan Films...I saw the trailer a few months ago and straight away I thought it was siiiiiiiiiiiiiick!!! Currently doing the rounds on the festival circuit I personally cannot wait to see this beautiful slice of visual pie heaven...don't really know what I've just said but I know that I am on very strong painkillers at the moment and that my real name is not Banana!...wish it was though...

Lily Smith music video director extraordinaire with whom I had the pleasure of working with last weekend...well I say work with but it was actually more of a case of her shouting things at me and the other extras, over very loud music which meant that I didn't really know what she was on about...I mean I'm just a pretty face and as long as I turn up that is enough most of the time!
Anywho here's another reason why I rate this lady. She directed this little video as well which happens to be my favourite track from Filthy Dukes' album...it was meant to be!

Oh my God I've literally wet my pants watching this...I'm usually not a fan of any type of big budget machiney/robotey sci fi kind of thingy bob...I like my weird and quirky European cinema little films but I have to pay dues when they are...you know...due...so Peter Jackson well done I can't actually wait to see this bad boy! Whoooo wheeeey I want to aliens to win...

Ok here's a few things I never thought would happen in my life: I never thought I'd be living/working in London...never thought that people would stop questioning whether I was a boy or a girl - I've also stopped questioning that myself now -....and I never thought that I would be the subject of "the girl of my dreams walking down the street in super slow motion hair flying in the wind looking straight at me but through me at the same time" type of sequence...but that's exactly what happened last weekend when I was shooting my scenes for the upcoming short film from writing duo Dan Hodgson and Jamie Coggans, "Gourmet" the story about a hapless, down on his luck thirty one year old who's miserable little life shows no sign of light until he one day sees "The One"...haunted by visions of this mystery woman who seems to have grabbed hold of his puny, fragile heart Ryan, our protagonist, descends into a spiral of drink induced self loathing helped along the way by his equally deluded best friend John... until one day destiny decides to bring the mystery girl into Ryan's life and....well of course I'm not just going to give away the whole thing am I?! You're going to have to wait and see!
"Gourmet"...coming soon to a dingy pub near you...

Friday Mantra

Saw this cute ad involving lots of roller skating babies who apparently owe their incredible abilities to drinking a particular brand of water....well I can tell you I've been drinking that particular brand for a number of years now myself and so far I haven't noticed any out of the ordinary changes to my system...I mean, no sudden magical power to become invisible...I haven't woken up to discover I know how to use After Effects...I'm not any taller...I think I need to claim my money back. Or maybe, just maybe...this ad is basically saying that I'm going to have a roller skating cute fat baby one day! Yeah that's it, that's my future! I'm guessing no babies were hurt during the making of this advert...

Preston's new song Dressed to Kill which has been pretty much taken hold of my brain and little ears since I saw it on last Sunday's T4...not only I can already see all the indie kids pulling some fancy shapes on the dance floor Friday night at Koko - and yes I'll be leading the procedures - but it's nice to see the artist formerly known as the Ordinary Boys front man looking much better than the hideous photos doing the tabloid newspapers/magazine rounds a while back....missing a front tooth is never a good look I'm pretty sure about that! And who can forget that Buzzcocks fiasco?! I did like the sequin jacket he was wearing that night though.... Anyways, back to the burning issue here, I could never harbor anything but jealous, murderous thoughts for any man with higher cheek bones than mine - nature never intended it this way - well...except maybe for Johnny Deep...but that's it!
Looking forward to hearing the rest of Preston's new material, I hear the album will be dropping later in the year....to kill to kill to kill to kill....

London Summer Fun

When you have friends with a camera and they know how to use it you can get up to all sorts of mischief you know?! Take for example this glorious London afternoon/evening which happened last week...even the little squirrels were up for a little bit of harmless fun and who can blame them?!...makes me wish I was one really...
